The 4 Parts To Medicare

Part A

Inpatient Hospital Coverage

Part A is usually $0 premium for most people because you (or your spouse) worked and paid Medicare taxes for 40 or more quarters.

Part B

Doctors Visits & Outpatient Coverage

Part B has a cost associated with it, depending on your income. You must manually elect Part B when you turn 65 if you choose to go onto Medicare. It covers your Doctor and Outpatient visits.

Part C

Medicare Advantage

Medicare Advantage (Part C) is an alternative to Original Medicare, offering bundled plans through private insurers that cover Medicare Part A, Part B, and often Part D, along with additional benefits like vision, dental, and wellness programs.

Part D

Rx Coverage

Part D provides prescription drug coverage for individuals enrolled in Medicare, offered through private insurance plans approved by Medicare.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before you attend one of our workshops, let’s take a look at some common questions people often ask:

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for individuals aged 65 and older, as well as certain younger people with disabilities. It consists of different parts: Part A (hospital insurance), Part B (medical insurance), Part C (Medicare Advantage plans), and Part D (prescription drug coverage), each offering various types of care and services.

The monthly cost of Medicare varies by part: Part A is usually premium-free for most people, while Part B has a standard premium of $174.70 in 2024, though it can be higher based on income. Medicare Advantage (Part C) and Part D prescription drug plans also have varying premiums depending on the plan and location.

With Original Medicare (Parts A and B), you can generally see any doctor who accepts Medicare. However, with Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans, your choice of doctors may be limited to those within the plan’s network, depending on the plan's rules. I.E. HMO vs PPO

You can enroll in Medicare during your Initial Enrollment Period, which begins three months before you turn 65 and lasts for seven months. If you miss this, you can sign up during the General Enrollment Period from January 1 to March 31, with coverage starting the first of the month following your enrollment, or during a Special Enrollment Period if you qualify.
